The news was not received with applause by Nigerians and it was not difficult to see why.
In the first instance, previous borrowings by the government had not improved the lots of Nigerians in any way.
The standard of living of Nigerians has deteriorated so rapidly, particularly in the last two years, that it is difficult to persuade Nigerians that they can look to the foreseeable future with any optimism.
Again, and perhaps more important, constant borrowing will put the lives of future generations in jeopardy.
This is why the Federal Government would do well to heed the counsel of Nigerians who have spoken against its move to borrow again.
