THE Federal Ministry of Education has expressed satisfaction with the level of infrastructure development and academic excellence recorded by the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE).
A director in the ministry, Mr. Abdullahi Saliu Jubri, made this known while on inspection of over 40 projects in the institution both in Oye Ekiti and Ikole Ekiti campuses.
The inspection tour was jointly carried out by the ministry of education and members of the governing council, including the vice chancellor, Professor Kayode Soremekun.
Jubri who rated FUOYE first among the nine universities established by the Federal Government in 2011 said, “I was not surprised that the university clinched 14th position in the rating carried out by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
He charged the university management to sustain the successes recorded both in academic and infrastructure development.
On his part, Professor Soremekun maintained that many of the facilities were started and completed by his administration towards providing a conductive environment for both staff and students.
He said, “The phase three on the campus was all forest and not accessible at all, but now it is accessible as you can see buildings and access road.
“We now have access road and 47 ultramodern buildings, which include 500 capacity lecture theatre, Mass Communication studio, three-in-one laboratories, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medical Sciences, female and male hostels and other facilities,” he added.
While saying that the university targets 20,000 students’ population in the next one year, the vice chancellor called on the Federal Government not to relent in its efforts at funding tertiary institutions in the country.
On his part, a member of the FUOYE’s governing council, Sabo Inuah, expressed the confidence that with the facilities on ground at the university, students, staff and the institution would complete favourably with their counterparts across the country and beyond.
