The candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) on July 16, 2022, Osun governorship poll, Busuyi Ayowole, on Thursday tasked Governor Ademola Adeleke with digital equipment of the state security outfit, Amotekun Corps, in order to effectively tackle crimes.
Ayowole gave the charge in a letter tagged ‘Four months in office: Letter of Fraternal Appraisal’ addressed to the state governor, made available to Tribune Online.
He said crime-fighting should be digitalised, considering the level of sophistication among some criminal elements, saying equipping Amotekun Security Corps would further checkmate activities of hoodlums and other vices.
The letter read: “With the aid of satellite navigation systems like GPS or GLONASS, the state government should consider digitalising street naming and property locations such that exact positions, to a precision of a few centimetres, can be accessible to law enforcement or fire departments in times of distress calls.
“The Osun state government should consider looking in the direction of giving the personnel of Amotekun an edge over counterparts from other states by equipping the state-owned security network with digital gadgets and security workstations that are compatible with satellite navigation systems.
“While we hope that the state’s 293 emergency line will soon graduate from being a vision to reality, I strongly advise an upgrade of Amotekun to a level where the outfit can effectively manage the 293 emergency line as intermediary operators.”
Ayowole also contended that training and re-training of civil servants to enhance their capacity must be accorded utmost priority by the new administration, coupled with the review of pensions of retirees considering the current economic realities.
