Dr Kayode Fayemi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has taken an early lead in the Ekiti State governorship election.
Of the eight local government areas where results have been announced by electoral officials, Fayemi has won in seven, as the official announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is being awaited.
Thus far, from the results collated at the local governments, Fayemi has won in:
Ilejemeje (4153 to 3937),
Moba (11837 to 8520),
Irepodun-Ifelodun (13,869 to 11,456),
Oye (14,995 to 11,271),
Ido-Osi (12,342 to 11,145),
Ijero (14,192 to 11,077) and
Gbonyin (11,498 to 8,027).
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Prof Olusola Eleka, won in Efon Alaye local government, polling (5,192) with Fayemi polling (5028).
The total of the eight results shows that the APC has 87,914 votes while the PDP has 70,625 votes, showing a difference of 17,289 votes.
With the 13,869 votes, the APC polled in Irepodun-Ifelodun local government area of Ekiti state, it indicated that Fayemi has won the incumbent Governor Ayodele Fayose in his Local Govenment Area.
Fayose, who is the number one supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olusola, is from Afao-Ekiti, a community in Irepodun-Ifelodun.
In Irepodun-Ifelodun, Olusola, the PDP candidate, polled 11,456 votes.
While the coalition of results is still ongoing in the keenly contested exercise, INEC is yet to officially declare the results and winner of the election.
