The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti state, Dr Wole Oluyede has revealed that the state must look inward and devise means of growing the economy, rather than relying on the monthly allocation of the federal government to survive.
The Ikere-Ekiti born medical doctor noted that the allocation from the central government alone could not secure the needed growth in the state, saying when elected during the governorship election, he would deploy all his expertise and contacts to turn things around in Ekiti.
Speaking during a radio programme monitored in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, the ADC candidate expressed worry over the debt profile of the state in the last decade, a situation he blamed on the inability of successive governments, ” to think outside the box and take advantage of various opportunities around the globe.”
He explained that many developing and developed countries in Europe do not have an abundance of resources that God has blessed Ekiti with, saying, ” the difference was because their leaders made good use of the available resources at their disposal.”
Oluyede expressed confidence that his party will emerge victorious saying Ekiti people have decided to go a new way that would give them better opportunities and offer them real dividends of democracy.
According to him, “The federal allocation is not enough for the state to develop, we have to work more and get money to develop our dear stage.
“The truth of the matter is, I am more interested in the massive development and growth of Ekiti. I am not going into any agreement with anyone, I am only concerned about my people, no other interest.
“By the grace of God, ADC is winning this election. The people of Ekiti are clamouring for the southern zone. I am not running because of South but because I know the answers to our challenges.”
He dispelled that insinuation that he is planning to step down for a particular candidate, noting that he is in the race to win.
