EFCC seeks media collaboration to tackle financial crime

The Economic and Financial Crimes  Commission (EFCC) says it needs media collaboration to wage a successful war against crime and criminality in the country.

The antigraft body made the plea while addressing members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, at the  Press Centre Warri, Delta.

Acting Zonal  Director, Edo, Delta, and Ondo states, Effa Okim, while speaking for the EFCC delegation said the fight against crime and criminality could not be left alone in the hands of the EFCC.

He said the antigraft body needed the collaboration of all Nigerians of which the media forms an integral part.

According to him, society would not be comfortable for all to live in if everyone folds his or her arms and allows crime and criminality to thrive.

He said many youths in Nigeria now engage in crime with impunity as nobody checks them.

He added that the situation is getting worse because many parents no longer monitor their children and wards closely.

“I know fighting crime is not going to be easy but with your collaboration, it will be easy,” he averred, warning parents to be upbeat in watching over their wards to avoid a bleak future.

“When l watch the way our children behave these days, l ask myself, where have we gone wrong? Where did we depart from our culture?

“This means somebody is not playing his roles. We have to restore our culture for things to move well,” he admonished.

Okim charged parents to warn their children to steer clear of crime and criminality or have a day with the law if they are caught.
