The Vice Chancellor of Edo State University Uzairue, Prof Emmanuel Aluyor, has announced that the institution will graduate a total of 414 undergraduate students, along with its first set of postgraduate programs, at the 5th convocation ceremony.
Prof Aluyor made this disclosure during a press briefing as part of the activities marking the 5th convocation ceremony of the university.
He stated that 12 students would graduate with first-class honors, 154 will receive second-class honors (Upper Division), 234 would achieve second-class honors (Lower Division), and 14 would earn third-class degrees.
Prof Aluyor explained that out of the 14 Ph.D. candidates in the institution, nine have completed their programs, and four have successfully completed their M.Sc and M.A. degrees. Additionally, 38 students will receive postgraduate Diplomas.
The VC also revealed that the university has obtained approval from the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) to commence new programs, including Nursing Science, Law, and Civil Engineering in the postgraduate curriculum.
“NUC has also conducted resource verification visits for various new programs, such as Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Broadcasting, Media Journalism, Mining Engineering, Production Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering, and academic activities will soon commence in these departments.
“The university has been diligently working to fulfil its purpose and the vision of its founders. Our goal is to be an exceptional institution for teaching and learning. Despite various obstacles, the university has continued to operate and successfully graduate students as scheduled.
“The university is currently projected to grow to over 4,500 students by the end of the ongoing admission process, showcasing its consistent growth and ability to attract more students.
“The 5th convocation lecture, titled ‘Harnessing The Potentials of Nigerian Youth for National Unity And Development,’ will be delivered by Brig. Gen. Yushau Dogara Ahmed, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps,” he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor also mentioned that the university would confer honorary doctorate degrees on two distinguished Nigerians, Dr Mrs Owen Omogiafo and Mr Eric Idiahi, in recognition of their illustrious careers and significant contributions to the development of Nigeria.
