The Former Minister of State for Education Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwjiuba in collaboration with the Young Nigerian Voices, a Non-Governmental Organization has distributed Easter palliatives to the Catholic Community of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish Umuduruegbeaku, in Onuimo Council Area of Imo State.
The food items distributed include 5,000 bags of rice and 2,000 kg of corn amongst other items worth several millions of Naira.
Speaking at the grand finale of the outreach held at the church building on Sunday, the National Publicity Secretary of Young Nigerian Voices, Chigozie Igbo Jr., revealed that over 5,000 bags of rice and 2,000kg of corn were distributed to churches nationwide as part of the Easter palliative initiative.
He said that similar donations of food items were equally made to Muslims during their last ramadan fasting period across Nigeria adding that the initiative is aimed at alleviating economic hardship faced by many Nigerians, particularly Christian brethren struggling to afford basic necessities during the Easter season.
According to him the objectives of the outreach were to provide relief to vulnerable Christian communities across Nigeria, foster a sense of unity and support among Nigerians, and encourage collective effort for sustained faith in Christians across Nigeria.
He recalled that the palliatives distribution started in Zango, Kaduna State, with the official flag-off by the National Coordinator of Young Nigerian Voices, Mallam A.A. Usman, the National Secretary, Prince Richard, while he commended Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba for his magnanimity in seeing to it that many Christian homes across the country who were unable to feed on that day got succour.
He said: “This initiative from Young Nigerian Voices and Hon. Barr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, is a step towards making a significant difference in the lives of our Christian brethren.”
“We believe that every Nigerian deserves to celebrate the Easter season with dignity. Our goal as an organization is to provide relief and share love with those in need at this time of economic meltdown in Nigeria”
Also speaking at the event, the Imo State Coordinator of the group, Chika Emedo, reiterated their commitment to alleviating the suffering of the less privileged and encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful.
In his remarks, the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ekeoma, expressed gratitude to Hon. Nwajiuba and the group for their thoughtful donation and support to the church.
He advised other leaders in the society to emulate Hon Nwajiuba in their efforts towards helping the people and the society at large.
