The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, on Saturday, called on residents, especially the Christian faithful to use the Easter festivity to meditate and give expression to the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ which exemplified love, peaceful coexistence and selfless service.
He however reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensure the security of life and property during and after the celebration.
According to a statement authorized by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Anthony Ogunleye, and made available to newsmen in Abuja, the minister further urged them to use the occasion to rededicate themselves to the virtues of love and peaceful coexistence.
Malam Bello stressed the need for residents to be alert to the happenings around them and report any suspicious activity in their areas to the security operatives.
While urging them to use the occasion of Easter to pray for the complete eradication of COVID-19, the minister appealed to them to take steps at getting vaccinated, while adhering to all preventive, non-pharmaceutical measures aimed at preventing the spread of the disease.
While the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila also urged Nigerians, especially Christians, to use this period of Easter and pray for the country especially over the worsening security challenges.
Gbajabiamila said despite the challenges facing the country, there will be light at the end of the tunnel, hence the need for prayers now and always.
The Speaker called for unity of purpose among Nigerians, saying there is more that unites us as a people than that which divides us.
He said Nigeria is a great country with good people who have great potential, adding that if well harnessed, the nation and the citizens would be better for it.
He specifically called on Christians to imbibe the virtues of Jesus Christ, whom he described as a role model to the world.
Gbajabiamila said the life and time of Jesus Christ are a perfect example of selflessness, care, affection, compassion and service to humanity, calling on Nigerians to emulate same.
Also, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has advised Christians to use the lesson of death and the resurrection of Christ to draw closer to God.
In his Easter message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, Ortom said that moving close to God will help Christians reap from His grace and mercy in the face of adversities.
Ortom assured the people of the state of his administration’s commitment to place priority on the security of lives and general welfare of the people.
The governor encouraged the people of the state to sustain the support they have been giving to his administration to enable it to provide greater development in various sectors of the economy.
He believed that it is only when the people support authorities in building a crime-free society that the government’s efforts at improving the standard of living can fully be achieved.
Meanwhile, Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa has also charged the Christian faithful to pray for the state and country as insecurity and other socio-political inadequacies threatened the nation’s stability.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, Gov Okowa said that Easter was a time for Christians to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and again, reawakened by its essence.
According to him, the power of the resurrection of Christ was made manifest in Easter it is an opportunity for Christians to seek God’s face in prayers to settle the myriad of security issues and widening division of Nigerians along religious and tribal lines.
The governor urged Christians to show love to one another, especially to the downtrodden in the society just as Christ sacrificed Himself to save mankind from destruction.
He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to the attainment of Stronger Delta through ongoing infrastructure development across the state and wealth-creation for citizens.
Okowa said that the government had taken measures through the establishment of Operation Delta Hawk to complement the operations of the Police in ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.
“On behalf of my family, the government and the people of Delta, I congratulate Christians all over the world as they celebrate 2021 Easter.
“I call on Christian faithful to seek God’s face in prayer to settle the insecurity challenges bedevilling our nation on all fronts.
