The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, on Friday, confirmed the arrest disarming and detention of a naval personnel, LS Akila A, deployed at FOB Dansadua for Operation FANSAN YAMMA who reportedly opened fire and killed a fellow military colleague under questionable circumstances.
This was contained in a statement made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba.
It stated that consequently, investigation has since commenced.
General Buba assured that after investigation, the case would be escalated to a standing court martial setup to address such misdemeanour among troops.
According to the statement, “The administrative procedure for notifying the family of the deceased is ongoing. It is for this reason, his name is not yet released to the public. Nevertheless, the name will be released in due course.
“Accordingly, we urge the media to exercise caution in reporting in order not to further demoralise the family of the deceased, please”.
