THE deposed Iyaloja of Ibadanland, Chief Labake Lawal, has dragged the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji; the Olubadan-in-Council and the new Iyaloja, Chief Iswat Ameringun, to court.
In a suit filed by her counsel, Akinjide Sadiq and others, at an Oyo State High Court, Chief Lawal was asking the court to declare illegal, the purported appointment and installation of the third defendant (Chief Ameringun) as Iyaloja of Ibadanland by the first and second defendants on Monday, March 20.
The Olubadan had, on January 10, constituted a committee to look into the crisis rocking the Ibadan Market Traders Association under the leadership of Lawal before the new Iyaloja was installed.
Chief Lawal, in the suit, said the appointment and installation of Chief Ameringun as Iyaloja “is not only wrong, but also a violation of her right to natural justice”.
She prayed the court to, therefore, declare the appointment null and void and of no legal effects whatsoever.
In her application for interlocutory injunction, Chief Lawal also wanted the court to “restrain the Olubadan and the Olubadan-in-Council from recognising Chief Ameringun as the Iyaloja of Ibadanland”.
In addition, Chief Lawal, who was appointed the Iyaloja of Ibadan 11 years ago by the late Olubadan, Oba Yunusa Ogundipe, asked the court to restrain Chief Ameringun from parading herself as Iyaloja, pending the determination of the suit.
