WIFE of Delta State governor, Mrs Dame Okowa, has donated 100 mattresses to Agbor Correctional Centre as part of activities marking her 60th birthday.
The governor’s wife also distributed sundry consumables to the centre, and to inmates in other custodial centres in Warri, Ogwashi-Uku, Kwale and Sapele.
Local government chairmen in areas where the correctional facilities are located also presented relief items to the inmates on behalf of Mrs Okowa.
On the occasion, Mrs Okowa ate and wined with the inmates even as she cut her birthday cake, amid special song rendition by the female inmates at Agbor Custodial Centre.
The Controller of Correctional Services in the state, Mr Ovie Esezobor, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Okowa for the gesture.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori, has felicitated with Mrs Okowa, describing her as a solid pillar behind the success story of her husband.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Dennis Otu, the speaker, noted that Mrs Okowa had brought joy to many homes over the years through her ‘O5 Initiative’. .
“We give God the praise for her inspiring life. The governor’s wife is a woman that has passion for her ‘O5 initiative’. With her drive, it is obvious that she is determined to achieve success with the ‘O5 Initiative’. She has been able to establish sickle cell centres all over the place and I want to applaud her for what she is doing in the lives of our people,” the speaker stated.
Oborewovri noted that the presence of Dame Okowa was being felt across the state by the people and commended her for the supportive role she had been giving to her husband, Governor Okowa.
Similarly, Dame Okowa has been described as a distinguished woman of substance and committed partner in the sustained drive by the Senator Okowa’s administration towards a stronger Delta.
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in a statement to congratulate Mrs Okowa, said she had contributed remarkably to the success of the Okowa-led administration, especially through her philanthropic programmes.
He extolled the governor’s wife for being a very supportive and reliable pillar to her husband and the entire family.
Ifeajika noted that Dame Okowa was celebrating 60 years of great accomplishments and urged her not to relent in her mission to give succour and hope to the underprivileged in the society.
“The activities of the O5-Initiative have continued to attract pnderositive narratives, particularly from well-meaning Deltans and Nigerians.
“On behalf of the governor’s media team, I congratulate our loving mother and outstanding philanthropist, Dame Edith Okowa,” he said.
