Four local government areas in Cross River Central have alligned with those in the northern senatorial district in their quest for the creation of Ogoja State.
The local government areas which are Ikom, Obubra, Etung and Boki, expressed their support during a town hall meeting at the Ikom township stadium.
The town hall meeting attracted notable figures from both the public and private sectors.
They declared their commitment to the movement for Ogoja State creation.
Former Commissioner of Police, Lawrence Alobi, the coordinator for the Ogoja State creation initiative in Ikom zone, noted that the meeting aimed to consult and formulate strategies to achieve the goal.
Alobi praised the local communities for their efforts in fostering peace, unity and socioeconomic growth.
He emphasised that Ikom, Obubra, Etung and Boki are crucial to the state’s future aspirations for socioeconomic development.
“Your individual and collective contributions to maintaining peace and stability in these areas cannot be overstated. I urge cooperation, especially from politicians and those in authority positions, to help realise Ogoja State,” he said.
Alobi also highlighted the importance of increased engagement and participation to hasten the process of creating Ogoja State.
In his address, event chairman, Colonel Pam Orgar (retd) urged all indigenes, both home and abroad, to unite and view Ogoja State as a vital initiative for growth and development.
He encouraged the four local government areas in the zone to foster solidarity, stressing that without love there can be no unity and without unity, there can be no progress.
Orgar stated that as an old province, Ogoja requires urgent attention and called on lawmakers from the area to persist in their efforts until Ogoja State is created.
