contact lensA  contact lens is a thin lens placed directly on the surface of the eye. Contact lenses are considered medical devices and can be worn to correct vision, or for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons.

Indeed, contact lenses are the toast of fashionistas. They prefer to go for them rather than the traditional eye glasses. This is due to the fact that they come in different shape, sizes and colours. Many lens designs are specially made to correct various types of vision problems. For instance, Spherical contact lenses are the typical, rounded design of contact lenses, which can correct myopia (nearsightedness) or hyperopic (farsightedness). We also have Bifocal contact lenses which contain different zones for near and far vision to correct presbyopia.

Orthokeratology lenses are specially designed to reshape the cornea during sleep, providing lens-free daytime wear while Toric contact lenses are used to correct astigmatism, as well as for myopia and hyperopia. According to opticians, many of these lenses can be custom made for hard to fit eyes.

TIPS; CARE FOR YOUR CONTACT LENS

-Always wash your hands with a mild soap and dry them with a lint-free towel before touching your lenses.

– Always clean, rinse and disinfect your lenses each time you remove them.

-Always handle the same lens first to avoid confusing the right and left lenses.

-Always keep all solution bottles closed when not in use.

-Always use fresh, unexpired lens care solutions.

-Always use solutions before expiration date marked on bottle.

-Always exercise caution and keep eyes closed if aerosol products are used while wearing lenses, until the spray has settled.

-Always clean your lens case daily and let air dry

-Always remove contacts before you go swimming

-Always carry your contact lens case along with a bottle of multi-purpose solutions to have a safe place to store your lenses

-Never allow soaps, cosmetics to come into contact with your lenses.

-Never touch the tip of a lens care solutions bottle to any surface.

-Never re-use any lens care solutions

-Never use eye drops or solutions not intended for use with contact lenses.

-Never wear your contact lenses in the presence of harmful or irritating vapors or fumes.

-Never wear your lenses beyond the period recommended by your eye care professional

-Never swap contact lenses with anyone

-Never apply hairspray after putting your contact lenses on.

-Never use tweezers or other tools to remove your lenses from the lens container unless specifically indicated for that use. Pour the lens into the hand.
