AHEAD of the elections holding nationwide in few days’ time, Christians all over the country have been enjoined to collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and involve themselves actively in the exercises by coming out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice.
Director of Great Commission Movement of Nigeria (GCMN), Lagos, a faith-based movement, and a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ International,
Rev Ambrose Massaquoi, made the call on Wednesday while speaking with newsmen on activities lined up by the organisation to celebrate its 50th Anniversary.
According to Massaquoi, Christians must exercise their voting rights in order for the right leaders that will also bring about the right environment emerge, even as he said that GCMN, being a faith-based interdenominational and non-denominational movement, had been praying for the country because it believed prayers can bring the right leader.
“We believe prayers can bring the right leaders and for God to bring the right environment,” he said.
Massaquoi also admonished youths to stay away from violence before, during and after the elections, adding that, “with their energy people tend to use them for the wrong purpose.”
“If we give them the right value as we are doing here, they should be able to use it for what is right and that is why we engage them in personal development activities to give them the opportunity for exposure and to develop their talent,” he said.
Speaking on the activities lined up for the anniversary, GCMN, which started as a Campus Crusade for Christ in 1951 with the slogan ‘Come help change the world,’ the cleric said the celebration will take place in three different locations across the country namely Lagos, Jos and Abuja.
According to him, the celebration, which will kickstart from Lagos on Wednesday, January 20 to Sunday, January 24, will witness open house/vision casting, church leaders conference, medical outreach, which includes giving out of free glasses dinner and discussion on GCMN’s roles in transformation and thanksgiving, among others.
He said the Jos celebration will hold from 11th to 16th August, while the train will move to Abuja for the grand finale from 21st to 25th of August.
Among GMCN’s outstanding achievement is being the first faith-based organisation to translate the Jesus film into 1,700 languages globally and 147 Nigerian languages.
