Kebbi State Epidemic Rapid Response Team (ERRT), Thursday, briefed the State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu on the situation of cholera outbreak in the state.
The team confirmed to the governor that between January and August this year, cases of diarrhoea and vomiting have been reported in 20 out of the 21 Local Government Areas of the state, out of which 55 samples were tested and 21 turned out to be positive (cholera).
In a press statement made available to newsmen shortly after their meeting by the Senior Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, Malam Yahaya Sarki stated that a total of 146 death have been reported across the state, adding that a single confirmed case is termed to be an outbreak of cholera in an area.
The team according to the statement advocated for inter-sectoral collaboration of stakeholders which was seriously emphasised at the meeting.
The team was led by the Permanent Secretary/ Chief Medical Director of Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Dr Aminu Haliru Bunza, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Agency, Dr Abubakar Kaoje among other members.
