A civil society organisation named “Child Protection Network” has elected Comrade Musa Umar Aboki as the state coordinator to run its affairs in Zamfara State.
The newly elected executives in Zamfara State are to serve for a period of three years.
The new executives emerged during a general meeting of the Child Protection Network, Zamfara branch, held at the IFAD Conference Hall in Gusau, the state capital.
Comrade Musa Umar Aboki, the Executive Director of the Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI), emerged as the State Coordinator of the Network.
Aboki’s emergence follows the recent appointment of the outgoing State Coordinator of the Child Protection Network, Bachiri S. Fulani, who was appointed by Governor Dauda Lawal as State Senior Program Manager for IFAD, Zamfara State.
Other executives of the network include Hajiya Maryam Muhammad, who will serve as Deputy Coordinator; Malam Nura Na’uku, who emerged as Secretary; and Hajiya Hafsat Rabiu, who will serve as Assistant Secretary.
The Child Protection Network is a platform with members from NGOs, CSOs, and CBOs working for child protection, development, and survival in the state.
In his acceptance speech, the new Network Coordinator, Musa Umar Aboki, called for the effective implementation of the Child Protection Law in Zamfara State.
“We appreciate the state government under Governor Dauda Lawal for initiating policies and programmes targeting children.”
He emphasised that the objective of the meeting centred around the membership of the network, the work plan, and stakeholder engagement through advocacy.
“We are also appealing for stakeholders’ support, including traditional, religious, and community leaders, to support programmes for child development in the state,” he appealed.
“The network is going to ensure a high level of advocacy and engagement with relevant stakeholders and resource mobilisation for child development activities,” he assured.
“We are going to monitor government policies and programs that address the challenges being faced by the children in the state.
“Another important issue to be given priority by the network is a media campaign to create awareness among the general public about child protection,” he further assured.
