I was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago but did not take the medications prescribed by the doctor due to lack of funds. However, when I checked my blood sugar level a few weeks ago, it had gone up. Worse still, I now have problems with my vision. The doctor I saw said that my eye problem could be due to the diabetes. If this is true, kindly let me know what I can do about it.

Your doctor is right. High blood sugar can lead to problems like blurry vision, cataracts, glaucoma, and retinopathy. In fact, diabetes is the primary cause of blindness in adults ages 20 to 74. Fortunately, in most cases, the condition is reversible once the blood sugar level becomes well controlled. It is therefore very important for you to see your doctor for a proper management of your diabetes.
