Buhari’s flag-off of N6.25bn Katsina ranch, endgame to herders/farmers clashes ― Okechukwu, VON DG

The Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving N6.52 billion for ranch development in his home state of Katsina State.

Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, who made the disclosure last week said that N5 billion of the amount had already been paid into the state government’s account.

Reacting to the development, described President Buhari’s action as cheering news.

He told newsmen in Abuja that the initiative would go a long way to mitigate the herders/farmers clash and ultimately douse the ethnic tension and violence in the country.

He said: “This is the first direct intervention through the state government with regard to Federal Government’s ranch development initiative,” Governor Aminu Masari deposed.

“For me, the flag-off of the N6.25 billion Katsina Ranch is the end-game for the incessant and controversial Herders/Farmers Clashes in Nigeria and hence the foremost news of the week. I’m surprised that most editors didn’t give it the prominence it deserved.”

Asked why he rated Ranch development as more important than the transmission of election results electronically, an issue which is at the heart of free and fair election in Nigeria. And which has polarised the polity?

“The Katsina Ranch is a poster boy of the National Livestock Transformation Plan, good news and we need more urgently.”

“I doubt if there is any farming community in Nigeria, especially in the Middle Belt that did not lose one person? What of Food Insecurity unleashed by Herders/Farmers clashes? And you talk of polarization of the country; methinks the clashes polarised our dear countrymen more than elections? It regrettably promoted our fault lines.”

Okechukwu lamented, “the truism is that the rise of separatist non-state actors like Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho is fueled by Herders/Farmers clashes. Their supporters are mostly victims of the clashes.”

He further claimed that the action of President Buhari was more important to Nigerians than the tension created over rejection of electronic transmission of results by the National Assembly in the Electoral Act 2016 ( Amendment) Bill, 2021 passed by both chambers of Parliament.

“Even us the Buharists are at pains on how the Herders/Farmers clashes more or less blurred the unprecedented Buhari’s Agrarian Revolution and rendered irrelevant Mr President’s strides in physical infrastructure.”

“Please, am not saying that electronic transmission of results is not important, but we should not forget that democracy is in recession worldwide and going by local parlance, APC & PDP are the same coin.”
