Russia’s soldiers could soon come up against two world heavyweight boxing brothers in combat as both Vitali Klitschko, mayor of Kyiv and his brother, Wladimir Klitschko, are planning to take up arms for their country, the Daily Mail of UK reported.
Both have won a string of world heavyweight fights.
Vitali told reporters that the people of Kyiv have weapons and have become ‘soldiers ready to defend our city.’
He said: “I believe in my country and I believe in my people.”
When asked if he and his brother would join civilians and soldiers fighting the Russians, he said: “We don’t have another choice. We have to do that.”
“A people longing for sovereignty and peace. A people who consider the Russian people their brothers. It knows that they basically do not want this war.”
He signed up for the reserve army earlier this month.
In 2011, they entered the Guinness World Records as the pair of brothers with most world heavyweight title fight wins–-30 at the time.
