Two suicide bombers who attempted to penetrate into the leprosy rehabilitation centre in Molai area outskirts of Maiduguri were this morning prevented from blowing the colony by loyal guard dogs who knew they were laced with explosives.
The two suspected insurgents who came on foot obviously from the nearby bushes, died in the process killing only themselves because they knew the game was up.
Spokesman of the Borno Police Command Victor Isuku, a DSP said that the image of the leprosy hospital was saved from sudden death by those dogs who kept the suspects running up and down unable to unleash the baggage of terror they brought to their target.
“At about 0515hrs (5:15 a.m), two suicide bombers, male and female, attempted to gain entry into the temporary settlement area for rehabilitated leprosy patients within the premises of Molai general hospital, in the outskirt of Maiduguri township, along Maiduguri/Damboa highway.”
“They were prevented by the persistent barking and attacks from dogs in the area. In the process, they hurriedly detonated IEDs strapped to their bodies, killing themselves,” said Isuku
Meanwhile a female suicide bomber had detonated only self before the Hospital at Umarari within Molai axis while heading to a military check point to cause double trouble for the security people on guard.
According to Isuku regardless of the heavy bangs and explosions heard by residents around Polo and GRA areas in the wee hours of the morning, no other casualty was recorded by the police EOD teams who were promptly drafted to the scenes, to sanitize and render the areas and its surrounding safe.
The two known factions of boko haram have stepped up their torment on the city and the University using mostly young men and women as suicide bombers sending hundreds to their untimely deaths. Since January this year when a Professor was killed by a suicide bomber who stood next to him during morning Muslim prayers.
The Army has vowed to catch one of the two leaders of boko haram within forty days.
