The Benin Electricity Distribution Company(BEDC) has completed a two-week training program aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of its technical staff across its franchise states of Ondo, Ekiti, Delta, and Edo.
The initiative was designed to address the rate of electrical accidents in the workplace, particularly among technical staff who are prone to engaging in unsafe conduct.
At the closing ceremony in Akure, Ondo State capital, Mr. Gilbert Nweke, Head of Safety and Environment, emphasized that the training covered various modules focusing on modern electrical systems, safety procedures, and operational efficiency.
“Safety consciousness is reflected in our mission statement, which prioritizes Safety, Teamwork, Integrity, Continuous Learning, and Resilience in Service as our core values,” Nweke said.
He noted that the training served as a wake-up call for technical staff, who are constantly at risk of electrical accidents, adding that, “If staff are not well-trained, they will engage in unsafe acts, which account for the highest frequency of accidents in our organization.”
Nweke reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continuous training and capacity building, emphasizing that it is a regulatory obligation and a cornerstone of their responsible and welfarist approach.
” We are committed to further training initiatives to foster a knowledgeable and skilled team, ultimately benefiting our customers and enhancing operational excellence,” Nweke concluded.
