IN a determined effort to tackle the water crisis facing residents of Bauchi metropolis caused by population increase, the State Executive Council has approved various contracts worth about N6.5 billion for the general improvement of water supply to Bauchi metropolis and environs.
This is contained in a release signed and issued by the Press Secretary to Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, Malam Abubakar Al-Sadique made available to newsmen in Bauchi explaining that the contract awarded to reputable construction companies include the construction of 500MM pumping mains from Gubi Dam junction to the reservoir at Buzaye Hill along Jos road awarded to Messrs. Sarplast West Africa at the cost of N890, 470, 864:53.
The Executive Council similarly approved the award of contract for the rehabilitation of Gubi Dam, conventional water treatment plant to Messrs. Lutech-PIL (JV) at the cost of N1, 428, 711, 906:67 while the sum of N937, 000, 000:00 is for the construction of 7, 000 million cubic capacity concrete reservoir at Buzaye Hill and rehabilitation of 2×11, 000 cubic meter concrete reservoir at Warinje Hills to Messrs. Mothercat Limited.
The Executive Council also approved the sum of N791, 981, 863. 60 for the rehabilitation of Gubi Dam works to Messrs. CCECC Nigeria Limited while the sum of N198, 675, 000:00 was approved for the procurement of six double cabin pick-up vans, one 14 seater bus and one SUV to Messrs. Isasha Investment Ltd.

The statement also contained that the sum of N2, 283, 581, 514:00 was approved for the replacement of a 50-kilometre mains distribution network and installation of bulk meters to Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited.
In the health sector, the statement contained that approval was given for sourcing of N482, 810, 227:22 to provide the state’s counterpart funding for the execution of Bill and Melinda Gates/ Dangote and USAID Foundation project on polio eradication and the issuance of irrevocable standing payment order of N30, 806, 083:99 monthly over a period of 18 months for the same reason.
In order to end epileptic power supply to the state, the Executive Council also approved for the environment impact assessment, construction and stepping down of 330 substation to Messrs Integrated Quest Engineering Ltd as a prerequisite for the award of contract for the improvement of power supply to the state by the Federal Government from the current 132.
