Since 2004, the red carpet awards gala has honoured achievers and brought together people of African origin and others of goodwill, to celebrate leadership and excellence.
Headliners and keynote speakers were, Dr. Bernice King, CEO of the King Centre and daughter of Civil Rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Junior; legendary South African singer, Yvonne Chaka Chaka; and Dr. Julius Garvey, son of Marcus Garvey.
Formerly known as the Planet Africa Awards, the event celebrates leadership and excellence at the national and international level.
Ayuba, a two-time recipient of the KORA awards and other internationally recognised awards, was said to have been considered for the prestigeous award for the essential role he played in the evolution of Fuji music worldwide.
Ayuba, who has three Platinum sales for Bubble, Ijo Fuji and Mr. Johnson Play For Me has also won two Kora Music Awards, honours from the H.E.N. Foundation and over 50 other awards worldwide.
Speaking on his expectations ahead of the day, Ayuba thanked those who considered him worthy of the honour and promsied to keep making Africa proud with his distinctive style of Fuji music.
Other recipients of the day include: Simpson-Miller,first female Prime Minister of Jamaica, who will be decorated with Lifetime Achievement Award; Justice Irving André Judge, Superior Court of Justice, Marcus Garvey Memorial Award; Dr. Tosin Aluko, Senior Engineer, Kinectrics Inc Science & Technology Award; Robert Katende Subject of the Disney Movie, Queen Of Katwe & Humanitarian; Hon. Desmond Elliott Filmmaker, Movie Star & Politician; Hugh Graham Community Advocate & ?President, Barbados Canada Foundation among others.
