House of Representatives, on Tuesday, called on Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun to stop the ongoing communal clashes in Osun which has led to the death of innocent Citizens and destruction of multi-million naira property.
The resolution was passed sequel to the adoption of a motion under Urgent Public Importance sponsored by Hon. Adewale Adebayo who called for the House intervention.
While stressing the urgent need to avert further clashes between some communities in Osun, the lawmaker underscored the need for the intervention of various security agencies toward quelling the crisis.
Hon. Adebayo in leading the debate bemoaned the effects of these clashes that have continued to claim lives and seen properties continuously destroyed all due to claims and counterclaims to land.
While expressing grave concern over the ugly development, Hon. Adebayo condemned in strong terms the continuous barbaric killing of individuals and destruction of properties.
Hon. Adebayo who commended the Osun State Governor for his swift intervention in the region, however, called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure more police presence in the region to maintain peace.
He further called on the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to ensure the right and proper definition and appropriation of land to each community.
In his remarks, Hon. Ojema Ojotu who proposed amendment to Prayer 2 of the motion, argued that the House does not need to commend the Governor, Senator Isiaka Adeleke who is doing the job for which he was voted into office.
To this end, the House mandated the joint Committees on Police Affairs, Special Duties and National Emergency Management Agency to ensure compliance.
