Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, will on Friday deliver the 11th convocation and 14th anniversary lecture of the Achievers University (AU) in Owo, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Briefing journalists ahead of the activities to herald the ceremonies, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Samuel Aje, said Atiku will deliver the lecture with the theme: “Education University Autonomy” while two other distinguished Nigerians would also be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees with Atiku on Saturday
Prof. Aje “at this 11th convocation of Achievers University, three very distinguished Nigerians, who through dints of hard work and exemplary leadership excel as role models in business, governance and nation-building, legal and judicial matters and public administration would be given awards.
” The distinguished and worthy Nigerians are: Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, former Vice President, Chief Adeniji Olateju Badejoko, the Hon. Justice and Alhaji Abdulraheem Sule, a retired Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Civil Service,”
The VC explained that a total of 434 students would be graduating from various 15 departments of the institution with 27 first-class graduates, disclosing that Miss Oluwatosin Oreofejesu Adeoye of the Microbiology department emerged as the overall best graduating student for the 2020/2021 graduating set.
He disclosed that 94 students of the institution would be inducted into the professional body of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, saying that 94 per cent of academic programmes of the institution had full accreditation, while accreditation for eight academic programmes would commence in the next few days.
He added that 80 per cent of the programmes subjected to professional accreditation had full accreditation from either the National Council for Nurses and Midwives in Nigeria or from the Council for the Registration of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
He also said that 280 students benefited from the school’s free-tuition scholarship programme which started in the 2020/2021 academic year in 10 academic programmes
The VC said the students would benefit from the scholarship for three consecutive years, saying that two more academic programmes had been added to the scholarship.
He said that the Governing Council of the institution also initiated a 50 per cent discount on tuition for five engineering academic programmes, saying that beneficiaries would enjoy it throughout their five-year study.
” This offer commences with the ongoing admission with a promise that tuition shall not be increased throughout the duration of their course.
” Parents and guardians are enjoined to send their children and wards to the school because this is a unique opportunity,” he stated.
Aje stated that Achievers University emphasis is not on money but on how to impact knowledge and encourage learning to develop the country.
