The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has, again, warned that it will prosecute corporate individual that exposes unapproved advertisements on any medium without the approval of the Council.
The agency gave the warning in a statement tagged ‘Exposure of Unapproved Advert using a Celebrity Wearing a Military General’s Uniform By D’General Bitters’, and signed by its Director General, Dr Lekan Fadolapo.
It described as ‘illegal’, the act of using the uniforms of military personnel, the Nigerian Police, NYSC or that of any other paramilitary agency for advertisement without formal approval from the concerned authorities.
ARCON queried the advertisement of D’General Bitters, being exposed on the Out of Home Media, where the popular Nigerian singer, David Adeleke ‘Davido’, was seen wearing a military General’s uniform without due approvals.
“Neither the authorisation of the Nigerian military for the use of its uniform, nor the approval of the Advertising Standards Panel was obtained before the said D’General Bitters advertisement was exposed,” it stated.
It therefore reiterated its resolve at stemming such tide by collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to ensure sanity is brought into the nation’s ad landscape.
