Anambra 2021: Avoid issues that will distract you, Buni tells Uzodimma committee

Yobe State governor and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, has urged the Party Campaign Committee for the Anambra State Governorship election to avoid issues that could distract it from its goals of winning the South-East state for the ruling party.

Governor Buni offered the admonition, on Tuesday, while inaugurating the team which has Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma as Chairman.

Also in the Committee are the Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu; his Kano State counterpart, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello amongst other chieftains of the APC.

Chairman of the CECPC equally appealed to the Governor Uzodimma team to ensure that aggrieved aspirants who lost out in the party primary produced Senator Andy Uba as the standard-bearer for the November 6 governorship election were integrated into the campaign committee.

He said: “You are enjoined to work as a team and to carry everyone on board. You are also advised to reconcile seeming differences within members of the party which might have arisen following the governorship primary, for us to confront the election with a united front.

“I have no doubt this powerful committee under the chairmanship of His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo state, will do us proud and capture Anambra State to APC.

“I am glad to say with a sense of satisfaction the growing fortunes of the party in Anambra state and the South-East geopolitical zone, in general, has increased our hope for victory. This will no doubt increase our chance of winning the election with a landslide victory.

‘May l call on the committee to concentrate on issues that will add value to the success of the party and avoid issues that may distract us from the path of victory. We should remain resolute, committed and law-abiding throughout the assignment and beyond.

“I also wish to call on the officials, party stakeholders and our loyal party members to support the committee in achieving its set target of delivering Anambra State to APC.

“To the people of Anambra state, this is an opportunity to belong to the national party, we should all support the committee for a successful assignment for a brighter future and for the good of Anambra State.”

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the inauguration, the Imo state governor assured that his Committee would take reconciliation with aggrieved aspirants very seriously ahead of the election.

He said: “For the aggrieved aspirants, of course, usually the case after each exercise, there will be people who are aggrieved, who will express one form of disappointment or the other but as usual, the party has an internal mechanism for resolving such issues. Going forward, I think we will deploy that mechanism to ensure that everybody is carried along and we will do a very united campaign for the victory we are looking for.”

He equally expressed the confidence that the party candidate would win the election.

“If you look at Nigeria today, you will know that the party to beat is APC because APC has been able to demonstrate amidst global crisis, economic and political crises that we have the capacity to secure the future of the country and that they have done by coming out strongly to combat the hostility occasioned by the Boko Haram activities, the issue of banditry, issue of food insecurity, social interventions. This government has done a lot and that is the party to beat. Look around, is there any political party remaining? The only party that is healthy, united today in Nigeria is APC. So why will you not join a ruling party to be part of the Nigerian projects?”

The APC candidate, Senator Andy Uba, said he would be willing to reach out to all camps in the party towards ensuring that they work as a united political family ahead of the election.
