The Rector of Igbajo Polytechnic, Dr Christianah Odejide, has appealed to the Federal Government to allow private polytechnics to benefit from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
Dr Odejide said many privately-owned polytechnics were being weighed down by financial challenges, inhibiting their development and quest to offer qualitative education.
Addressing a press conference in Igbajo as part of activities marking the convocation ceremony of the institution, Odejide said the agitation for extension of TETFUND scheme to private polytechnics and universities had been on for a long time, urging the Federal Government to yield to the demands.
She, however, hinted that the legal luminary, Chief Afe Babalola, delivered the convocation lecture entitled: “The place of Technical Education: The Dichotomy between Polytechnic and University Education in Nigeria,” which took place on Wednesday, 6 November, 2019.

Odejide further explained that the convocation ceremony, which was held on Thursday, 7 November was a combination of the 2016/2017, 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 sets, adding that a total of 1,569 students graduated.
According to her, 38 Higher National Diploma (HND) students had distinctions, 224 had upper credit, 397 lower credit and 19 had pass while 34 National Diploma (ND) students got distinction; 218 upper credit , 572 lower credit and 137 students finished with pass.
