The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has inaugurated two special committees to address pressing issues in Northern Nigeria. Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yayale Ahmed, will chair the Unity, Peace, and Reconciliation Committee, while former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman Dambazau, will lead the Security Committee.
The committees were set up to provide pathways for addressing lingering problems in the region, including deteriorating inter-group relations and unabating insecurity.
“The Unity, Peace and Reconciliation Committee will propose realistic mechanisms for strengthening Northern unity and reinforce processes for regular consultations and dialogue,” ACF National Publicity Secretary, Professor Muhammad Tukur Baba, said in a statement.
The Security Committee will suggest ways to address the devastating effects of insecurity in the North.
The committees were inaugurated in Abuja on September 30 and October 1, 2024, and are expected to submit their reports by mid-November 2024.
