My own Aare Ona Kakanfo reign will not end up like MKO ―Gani Adams

THE new Aare Ona Kafanfo designate, Otunba (Dr) Gani Adams, on Sunday in Iwo declared that his own reign as the holder of the title would not end up like the episode of Late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the June 12, 1993 presidential poll, which was annulled by the military junta.

Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the election, which many believed laid his life for the entrenchment of democracy. Having died in incarceration during despotic rule of General Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd) was the last title holder of Aare Ona Kakanfo.

Adams, the popular leader of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), a socio-cultural group said “my own Aare Ona Kakanfo is not like that of Aare Ona Kakanfo Abiola, “Aseyori ni ma se te mi, meaning (my own Aare Ona Kakanfo title and reign would be successful”.

The new Aare Ona Kakanfo designate spoke at the 50th birthday ceremony of the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Mr Semiu Okanlawon.

The development came as Aregbesola raised Adams’ consciousness to the critical role and historical antecedents of that title when he said in Yoruba language that “Gani Adams has been an ally for so many years and I share a lot with him. He said he is now new generalissimo of Yoruba land, both seen and unseen forces. You are worthy of this new title.
