No fewer than 71 of the 654 students of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo, will be graduating with first-class honours during the 14th convocation ceremony of the school, which coincided with the 17th-anniversary ceremony of the institution.
This was made known by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Omolola Irinoye, during a press briefing to herald the convocation and anniversary ceremonies slated for this Saturday.
Irinoye also disclosed that 303 students graduated with second-class upper division, 243 with second-class lower division, and 35 with third class.
According to her, “The institution will be presenting 143 graduate nurses to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for induction as Registered Nurses and Midwives, saying “this will be our fifth induction ceremony for graduate nurses”.
“We shall equally be presenting 12 graduates from our engineering programmes to the Council for Registration of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). This set will be the third to be inducted ”
She disclosed that three distinguished Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in various capacities with exemplary courage, commitment, and dedication will honoured during the convocation ceremony.
The VC listed the awardees to include, Governor Muhammed Bago of Niger state, the Managing Director of Gideon Healthcare Plc Lagos, Dr Fidelis Akhagbaso, and the Orangun of Oke Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin.
Irinoye expressed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and its continuous pursuit of educational advancement and emphasised the institution’s dedication to making education accessible to a wide range of individuals by providing scholarships.
She commended the University Governing Council for graciously approving 12 programmes to be mounted as 100 percent tuition-free in the 2024/2025 academic session.
This gesture is in pursuance of the philosophy of promoting access to higher education to young people who may be denied the opportunity due to lack of huge resources. To date, 319 students have benefited.
The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that with the institution’s scholarship initiatives, “students are offered 100 percent tuition-free scholarship for 12 programme and encouraged parents to explore the opportunities.
She urged them to consider the tuition fee programs that align with the university’s commitment to excellence and meet the JAMB cut-off requirements.
“Parents and guardians are encouraged to optimize the 100 percent tuition-free grace of Achievers University Council in these 12 programme,” she said.
