Kano State House of Assembly has received 2022 budget estimates of the 44 local government councils of the state totalling N229,535,321,657.08 billion for approval.
The Speaker of the House, Speaker, Engr Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, while announcing the receipt of the budget proposal during the House session, said the estimates were contained in a letter signed by the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo.
According to him, the estimate was in compliance with Section 69 subsection 1c of Kano Local Government Law of 2006 which seeks kind consideration and approval of the House.
Hon Chidari, however, disclosed that the letter further informed the lawmakers that adequate provision was inserted in the estimate to cater for the need and aspirations of the people as well as the state government’s policies, programmes and projects.
According to the budget, 32.72 percent is for current expenditure, the overhead cost will gulp 16.95 percent and capital expenditure stands at 49.33 percent.
Speaker Chidari then handed over the documents to the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and that of Appropriation Committee for scrutiny, revealing that the ad-hoc committee was given eight days within which to submit a report to the House.
Meanwhile, the House has invited the chairmen of the 44 local government councils to appear before the lawmakers and defend their budget in the six designated ad-hoc committees.
In another development, the House has received a letter of commendation from the people of Bagwai Local Government Area over the tragedy of the boat mishap.
They prayed to Allah to reward all those who came to their aids during tragedy and to reward them abundantly.
