FORTY-three-years-old Solomon Ejor, who was on a mission with a search party to rescue his mother who was abducted by suspected Fulani herdsmen, has been beheaded by his mother’s assailants.
The incident occurred at Oruar’Ivie community in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident was greeted by palpable pandemonium and fear in the sleepy community as angry members of the community were said to have stormed the Hausa Quarters in a reprisal attack.
Tribune Online gathered that trouble started on Monday when some armed bandits, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, abducted a woman, Mrs Maria Ejor, who had gone to her farm at Ovre.
As a result, Mrs Ejor’s son, Solomon was said to have mobilised his siblings and others to rescue her mother from the hands of her abductors at Ovre.
A fierce clash allegedly ensued between the rescue team and the assailants, which led to the shooting of young Solomon Ejor and the release of his mother.
Tribune Online gathered that after the news of the clash got to the community, youths stormed the palace of the king of Oruar’Ivie, Ovie Akpoyoma Majoroh, in anger and headed to Hausa Quarters on a revenge mission.
A source, who confided in journalists in Warri on Tuesday, said “Solomon’s mother went to farm in the Ovre and she was held hostage by the herdsmen.
“So the children, including Solomon, mobilised to go rescue their mother.
“On getting there, they encountered the herdsmen, who later released the mother, but gunned Solomon down.
“Now, Abraka indigenes, under Orua-Ivie Kingdom of His Royal Majesty, Akpoyoma, the community has mobilised to attack the Hausa Quarters in their area.
“As we speak, the fight is going on, although soldiers and policemen have been drafted to the area.
Police have been shooting teargas; people are running up and down.”
Meanwhile, the ensuing violence is said to have been brought under control by the combined efforts of the police and soldiers.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, the prime suspects were herdsmen amid ongoing investigation.
He added that “one person, Solomon Ejor, was killed and decapitated.
The situation has been brought under control and investigation is ongoing. No arrest has been made,” he concluded.
He also noted that the tensed situation had been brought under control by security agents.
