Three traditional rulers and nine other eminent personalities have been conferred with the award of Real Distinguished Nigerians (RDN) in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The awards were conferred on the recepients by the Nigeria Community Research Consortium (NCRC) at its fourth edition of its Honour and Merit Award over the weekend.
Addressing the recipients, the chairman of the occasion, Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Ovie Richard Layeguen, Ogbon, Ogoni-Oghoro I, appealed to the awardees to be good ambassadors of the organization.
“I appeal to the recipients of this prestigious award of Real Distinguished Nigerian to live life worthy of emulation in all their doings and utterances; above all they should live life of righteousness.
“Know that you are specially selected, therefore, show yourselves approved and be good ambassadors of the organization,” he admonished.
Three recepients of the award, the Okobaro of Jeremi Kingdom, HM Matthew Ediri Egbi, Owahwa II, the King of Abia- Edi community Akwa-Ibom, His Royal Highness Ibok, Jacob Okon, and the Zonal Coordinator, Church of God Mission, Rev. Isaac Chichah, while reacting to the honour, said the award would spur them to embark on more social responsibilities for the developments of the society.
Oba Gemini of Ekiti land, HRM Oba R. O Ajayi, who also bagged the award, commended the organizers and called on state and federal governments to proscribe illegal bodies extorting unsuspected Nigerians in the name of awards.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the President of NCRC, Dr. Joe Oharisi, said NCRC is a non – governmental Organization (NGO) with the goals to change societal orientation of hero – worshipping of wealthy people who have illegally acquired wealth.
He enjoined the awardees to continue in their humanitarian and philanthropic activities that brought about their recognition with the award.
Oharisi urged them to identify and assist their communities in the areas of essential grassroot needs such as provision of hand-pump potable water, construction of roads and markets, and establishment and renovation of schools.
Among recepients of the RDN award were Engr. P. E Ekpetipe, Senior Special Assistants to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Elder Ala Solomon and Chief Okiemute Oviri.
Others were; ComradeGoodluck Okosije Mamuyovwi, Hon. Sokoh Stephen, Prof. Johnson Egodotaire, and Chief Esehenake Samuel Jimoh.
