Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has restated his commitment to restructuring the country as well as ensuring implementation of free education, healthcare for all, rural integration and full employment, being the cardinal points of the pan- Yoruba socio- political group, Afenifere, if elected into office, come 2027.

Obi made this known while speaking during his courtesy visit to the Afenifere leadership at the group’s Lagos office, in company of the party’s 2023 Governorship Candidate in the state, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour; the National Coordinator, Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, among others.

The former LP presidential candidate, who was on national consultation with stakeholders across the country, was received by Afenifere Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan; former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Sen. Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele; Afenifere Secretary General, Chief Sola Ebiseni; Chief Supo Shonibare, Afenifere spokesperson, Prince Justice Faloye and the group’s Organising Secretary, Mr. Dele Farotimi.

Others were Afenifere Deputy Secretary General, Barr. Alade Rotimi-John, Bashorun Segun Sanni, among others.

A release jointly signed by the Afenifere Leader, Oba Olaitan and the group’s spokesperson, Prince Faloye, copy of which was made available to newsmen, after the visit, which took place on Tuesday, said discussions at the parley ranged “from Peter Obi’s candidacy in the 2027 presidential elections to the State of the Nation, which included the harassment of political opposition and threats to true democracy, as well as the dire economic situation and spiralling cost of governance.”

Speaking at the parley, Obi said he came to express gratitude for past support of his 2023 presidential campaign rendered by Afenifere, describing the pan- Yoruba socio- political group as a continuous voice for good governance in the country.

Besides, he stated that his visit was also to inform Afenifere of current political developments, especially with respect to his plans for the upcoming 2027 presidential elections, restating his commitment to restructuring and Afenifere’s Cardinal Points regarding education, health, rural integration and full employment.

Responding, Oba Olaitan said Afenifere remained Afenifere unshakeable on its egalitarian values of abundance for all, expressing gratitude that the former presidential candidate, Obi stood on those values.

Afenifere chieftain, however, voiced concern on the continuous restriction on democratic space, urging all to keep alive the touch of the democratic spirit lit by Nigerian forefathers.

“Afenifere in response stated that it remained unshakeable on their egalitarian values of abundance for all, and expressed gratitude that Peter Obi stood on those values. The Leader voiced concern on the continuous restriction on democratic space and urged all to keep alive the touch of the democratic spirit lit by Nigerian forefathers.

“The meeting ended about 4 pm with promises of more consultations and collaborations,” the statement said.
