The Anambra state chapter Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Okechukwu Ifeanyi, has assured the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano that the state workforce was ready and committed to increase the state Internally Generates Revenue (IGR), beyond N3 billion in 2020.
It could be recalled that Obiano had while addressing civil servants in the state last December, promised to not only pay the newly approved N30,000 minimum wage but to also increase their monthly emoluments beyond that if they help in increasing the state IGR to N3bn and in curbing revenue loopholes.
The TUC chairman while speaking to newsmen yesterday in Awka, explained that his office, senior civil servants and others would meet with other key players in the state revenue board so as to fashion out modalities to be employed in realising the dream.

“Our governor has never reneged on his promises to workers. He surprised us when he took over the mantle of leadership by increasing our salaries up to 15% across the board. We will help the state to improve its IGR up to N3bn and beyond.
“We will have a discussion with the agencies in charge of IGR, including the state ministries of commerce and industry, and transport, unit officers and other senior civil servants on this within the second week of January.
“There are several ways we will help to prove to improve IGR, especially in the agriculture sector.
Anambra is producing rice and vegetables. We will improve on them, animal husbandry and so on,” he stated.
