FORMER Sokoto State Governor, and Presidential aspirant under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, on Monday, promised to give priority to the restructuring of the country if elected the President of the country next year.
Bafarawa who made this promised in Akure, Ondo state capital, during his visit to the leadership of Pan Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, said he was not only an apostle of restructuring but promised to bring its implementation to reality in Nigeria.
He maintained that restructuring remains the only option to tackle the myriad of challenges confronting the nation saying it would ensure a way forward in Nigeria’s quest for unity and development.
Bafarawa said “I am not just supporting restructuring, I am going to implement it.
“Nigerians should see whoever talking about restructuring as talking about developing this country. They are talking of development and not personal interest of any individual or group.
“We have held various conferences which have been kept aside and already the work has been done, by the time I emerge as the President of this country, within the first two or three months, we will set up a committee to review the recommendations and then start the implementation”
“We are going to work with the National Assembly and the judiciary to look into the recommendation of past conference, with a view to restructure our nation and to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.”
While speaking on what he intended to do differently if eventually emerge as the President of the country, saying the PDP government needed to do some damage control to revive the country’s economy and other sectors.
Emphasising on the damage control, Bafarawa said “what we are trying to say by the damage control is talking about the damaged economy, security, education, health and any other sector you can think of for the betterment of this country because it has been damaged
“This is one of the reasons we, as PDP, have to think ahead and take our time to start to learn how we can do the damage control. It is not about criticising all the past government, that is not our idea and style but to see where the mistakes are being made.
“We are not going to witch- hunt anybody because if we do this we will not move forward and the only way to move forward at this critical time is to see where things are wrong and put it right.
We shall de-emphasise over-dependence on oil and look towards, agriculture, tourism, mining and manufacturing as potential drivers of our economy”.
Bafarawa, however, solicited for the cooperation and support of Nigerians in actualising his vision, towards rescuing the nation and place it on the path of greatness again.
