Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has lamented over the killing of two people in the just-concluded House of Assembly by-election in the state, vowing to end hooliganism in future elections.
This was even as he said the people of the state have spoken over the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election held on Wednesday.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Zailani Bappa, on Thursday said that the governor also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for providing the enabling environment and security agencies for providing enough security for the successful conduct of the election.
Governor Matawalle said the duty of every responsible administration was to ensure peaceful coexistence in the society, saying this was the main reason he was bitter with the events leading to the death of two persons.
“However, with the measures taken by security operatives, both elections last Saturday and Wednesday were held without further bloodshed.
I wish to commend the people of Bakura, the security operatives and especially our supporters for a peaceful conduct of both the elections,” Matawalle added.
“Finally, the truth has prevailed. The people have spoken. The people of Bakura and indeed, the entire people of Zamfara State have shown the world that we have earned their precious confidence.
“I wish to thank the people of Bakura and the entire citizens of Zamfara State for once again, endorsing their confidence in our administration and our party, the PDP. This will further give us the confidence to do more for the security of lives and property and the prosperity of our citizens. It is a great indication that we are indeed, getting it right,” Matawalle added.
