The 12 Brigade Nigeria Army has launched an operation, tagged: “Exercise Still Waters III”, aimed at ensuring a secured yuletide season.
The Exercise was flagged off by His Excellency, Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, on Monday in Okene.
Speaking, the Commander 12 Brigade Nigeria Army, Brigadier General Harunah Dasuki, described the exercise as an annual event that is being conducted by the Nigeria Army to ensure that the Yuletide period is secured for members of the community where they operate.
According to him, during the Yuletide, crimes and other vices were always on the rise; hence, the Headquarters of the Nigeria Army deemed it a feat to rise to the occasion by intensifying efforts to curtail the vices for the people to enjoy the Yuletide.
Brigadier General Dasuki explained that it is a national exercise that is meant to run from October 2nd to 5th of January 2024.
The Commander stressed that the Exercise was also aimed at encouraging synergy among security agencies.
He emphasised that no security agent could work alone, but there was a need for collaboration to ensure a secure environment for the people.
The Brigadier General assured that the Nigerian Army would continue to intensify efforts to ensure a secure environment for the people, as well as economic activities to thrive.
He appealed to the communities to provide adequate information to enable them to keep the areas safe.
Speaking shortly after the flag-off, Gov. Bello assured that he would continue to provide the necessary support to complement the efforts of the military to enable them to tackle the issues of insecurity in the area.
The Governor, who was represented by the Chairman of Okene Local Government Area, Alh Abdulrazak Mohammed Yusuf promised that the community would provide adequate information that would help the officers discharge duties effectively.
Heads of various Security Agencies in the State were present on occasion.
The highlight of the event was a tour of the Exercise Area.
