In a compelling call for sustained development and governance continuity, Member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewumi Adeyemi, has urged governors across Nigeria to adopt a visionary approach to leadership, with a specific reference to the recent launch of the Lagos Blue Train.
Adeyemi, who has long been an advocate for progressive governance, emphasised the need for leaders to extend their horizons beyond the typical four-year term.
He stated, “Our vision should be beyond four years.” This statement encapsulates his belief that the true potential of leadership lies in its long-term impact on the lives of citizens.
Adeyemi made these disclosures while reacting to the recent launch of the Lagos blue train in Osogbo, state capital of Osun in a statement on Wednesday.
The recent launch of the Lagos Blue Train, a landmark project in Nigeria’s transportation sector, serves as a prime example of what can be achieved through continuity in governance.
Adeyemi who is representing Obokun State Constituency commended Lagos State Governor’s commitment to the project, highlighting how it will significantly enhance transportation infrastructure, reduce traffic congestion, and improve the overall quality of life for Lagosians.
He cited the Lagos Blue Train project, which was initiated by former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and has been diligently pursued by subsequent administrations, as a prime illustration of the benefits that come with sustained commitment to a common goal.
Adeyemi also highlighted the road channelization projects in Osun State, spanning the tenures of former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Rauf Aregbesola, Gboyega Oyetola, and the current governor, Ademola Adeleke.
He praised Governor Adeleke for continuing and completing projects initiated during Aregbesola’s tenure, demonstrating the value of consistency in governance.
Adeyemi further encouraged governors from all states in Nigeria to follow this exemplary model.
He stressed that prioritising continuity in governance would not only lead to the completion of ongoing projects but also pave the way for the initiation of innovative and ambitious projects that can transform communities and drive economic growth.
The Lagos Blue Train project, with its focus on sustainable urban mobility, aligns with Adeyemi’s vision of creating lasting legacies through public service.
He concluded his statement by urging fellow legislators and leaders at all levels to unite in the pursuit of a Nigeria where development knows no bounds, where progress is continual, and where the welfare of the people remains paramount.
Adewumi Adeyemi’s call for visionary governance and continuity has resonated with many, sparking a vital conversation about the importance of long-term planning and sustained development in Nigeria’s political landscape.
