GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has vowed that his administration will not relent on its anti-cultism and anti-kidnapping war until criminality and all criminal elements are rooted out of the state.
He made the vow on Monday while speaking at the demolition of yet another two hideouts of suspected cultists and kidnappers at the Mini-Okukwu and Mini-Ihunwo suburbs of Port Harcourt.
The governor also announced that his administration had instituted an aggressive prosecution scheme against suspected cultists and kidnappers, adding that nobody would be allowed to slow down the pace of development in the state through criminal activities.
“We have zero tolerance for crime and criminality. We are determined to make this state safer for residents and investors.
“Therefore, government will always take action on credible intelligence gathered by security agencies. We will root on the spots where criminals use as hideouts across the state.
“We will not stop until these criminals stop disturbing our people. We will eliminate criminality in Rivers State as we have taken steps to prosecute suspected cultists and kidnappers arrested by security agencies,” he declared.
In another development, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has called on the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) to reconstruct the road leading to its administrative headquarters at Mgboshimini in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Wike, who spoke when he embarked upon a facility tour to the Agip headquarters on Monday, said the condition of the road had given the oil company a negative image, adding that its reconstruction would serve as a corporate project for its host company.
“I commend the Nigerian Agip Oil Company for its numerous corporate projects across the state. But the state of this road to the administrative headquarters of the company gives the company a negative image.
“I urge the company to reconstruct this road. I also call on the company to ensure that they provide electricity to the host community of its administrative headquarters as it has done elsewhere,” he said.
The governor however assured the management of the oil company that his administration would always collaborate with them on development projects and programmes that would benefit the people.
In his remarks, Group Managing Director of NAOC, Mr Marco Rotondi, noted that the company had been involved in series of corporate social projects in its host communities.
According to him, the areas of focus of the oil company had been agriculture, health, education and skills acquisition.
