The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has said that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will never become president of Nigeria.

Speaking on News Central TV’s 60 Minutes with Mr Kay on Friday, Bwala said that Obi does not possess the qualities required to lead the country.

He said, “Peter Obi will never be president. He will never cross the central business district that will lead to Aso Villa.

“Anybody that would be a president, there are characteristics that you will see.

“The person must be visionary, the person must be grassrooted, organic grassrooted, not manipulation, and the person must be sincere for whatever he is but won’t present a picture for what he is totally the opposite for who he is, Peter Obi will never be.”

He further argued that the former Anambra State governor lacks genuine grassroots support.

Bwala also accused Obi of promoting what he described as a false narrative to gain support from the Christian community during the administration of the late former president Muhammadu Buhari.

“Peter Obi does not have a grassroot, what Peter Obi did is that he went to the church with a narrative when Buhari was in government that the church is being disenfranchised and it’s time for the church to take back their country.

“That narrative is what he used in rallying support among pastors, bishops and that is not a grassroot support,” he added.

The comments come hours after a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, also said Obi would never become president.

Fani-Kayode criticised Obi over his recent remarks on the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) and Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle.

In a post on X on Friday, he described Obi’s comments as offensive and disrespectful to those who lost their lives and freedom during the fight against military rule.

He said the statement went beyond politics and had wounded the sensitivities of individuals directly affected by the struggle.

The former minister accused Obi of mocking the sacrifices of those involved in the June 12 movement and insisted that such remarks were unacceptable.

He also referenced the era of General Sani Abacha, noting that the memories of those who suffered under the regime would continue to speak against Obi.

Fani-Kayode further stated that Obi would never become president and added that his political influence would continue to decline.
