AN Ijebu-Ode-based cleric and landlord in Ogun State, Alhaji Abiodun Awojobi, has petitioned the state’s Commissioner of Police over alleged threat to his life by one of his tenants, Honourable Bolaji Banjoko.
Awojobi, in his petition routed through the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode, alleged that the tenant had continued to threaten his life.
He said despite giving the tenant a quit notice, he (tenant) had continued to boast that he will only move out of the house whenever he feels like.
The landlord pleaded with the police commissioner to call the tenant to order, alleging further that he had continued to threaten him, his family members and other tenants in the house.
The petition read: “We have gone to Igbeba police station several times to report him and he has always been as the one to blame every time we are there. The record is at the police station.
“I am pleading with you and seeking your assistance to save my life from the tenant, as he has continued to threaten my life.
“As a law-abiding citizen, I have refrained from taking the laws into my hands because I don’t want a situation where people will begin to see us as birds of the same feathers.
“I have given him a quit notice, but he keeps bragging that he will only quit my house anytime he feels like.
“I am begging you to help call him to order, because my life and those of my families are in danger the more he lives under my roof.”
Reacting to the allegation, Honourable Banjoko confirmed the petition saying he had been invited by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Ipegba police station and the matter had been settled.
Banjoko told Nigerian Tribune that there was never a time he planned to threaten or had threatened the landlord’s life.
“What really happened was that the landlord wanted me to be parking the official vehicle given to me by the state government outside the compound despite the fact that there is enough space in the compound. On this, he took me to Ipegba police station but the police condemned his action,” Banjoko said.
He further said that after the matter had been settled at Ipegba, the landlord also wrote a petition against him at Area Command Ijebu-Ode alleging threat to life.
“I had been to the command and I have explained what really happened. I assured them that I will pack out from the house when my tenancy expires,” Bajoko said.
