What motivated you to go into politics?
I started my political journey from the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the year 2000. I’ve contested twice for the State House of Assembly. I was appointed as the Special Adviser on Environment in 2011-2014. Also, I contested in 2015 as PDP House of Assembly candidate. I am motivated by the need to serve my people. I am a passionate politician who has the love of her people at heart. I truly understand the daily struggles and pains of the people in my constituency. And after listening to their appeals for help, I decided to toss my hat into the ring in humble acceptance of their challenge to advocate for them and provide quality representation at the National Assembly. I will work assiduously for Abeokuta North/Odeda/Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency to attain an enviable status and a pride of place amongst the ranks of federal constituencies in Nigeria. For me, this mission is about the opportunity to chart a renewed course for the empowerment, well being, upliftment and development of the people of my beloved constituency.
If you emerge victorious at the polls, what will be your contribution to the empowerment of women and youths?
When I win, one critical empowerment I’d like to embark on is setting up a micro credit facility for our women and skill acquisition centres across my three LGAs. I will empower the youth, women, farmers, artisans and traders. I will also initiate a support structure for pupils, orphans and widows.
Do you really think women will have a good outing at the forthcoming elections?
We are still crawling. For instance, I’m the only female candidate amongst 40 men in PDP in Ogun State.
What are you doing to ensure that you get the votes of your people on Saturday?
I’ve campaigned in all my 38 ward and at each wards I addressed the women on the need to vote for me for a purposeful representation. They are always at campaigns in large numbers and they also constitute a larger percentage of voters. I also encourage them to come on board and join hands with me to better the lot of our women.
How have you been combining your roles as a wife, mother and politicians?
We have been able to cope because I have a very supportive husband who has given me ‘the wings to fly.
What advice do you have for the electorates?
Vote for credible candidates. Don’t sell your votes!!
