Weak, incompetent leadership bane of nation’s hardship, insecurity, Baptist Seminary bemoans

President, The Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso, Professor Emiola Nihinlola

President, The Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso, Professor Emiola Nihinlola has bemoaned weak, insincere, incompetent leadership as the bane of present hardship, banditry and insecurity in the country.

Addressing a press conference in Ogbomoso, on Monday, ahead of the 2021 Annual Ministers’ Conference of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso, Nihinlola decried that banditry, corruption, inflation and poverty becoming the order of the day was due to selfish, irresponsible, not strategic and largely incompetent leadership.

He advanced human capital development for all spheres of Nigerian life: secular, religious, education, politics/corporate governance, science/technology as crucial in addressing the nation’s challenges.

He also identified the imperativeness of Godfearing leadership if the nation is to experience peaceful coexistence, social harmony, economic buoyancy and political stability.

Nihinlola said: “I will like to elaborate a little more on this third significance of the conference which speaks to the current social, economic and political situation in Nigeria.

“Everyday life in Nigeria is now characterized by insecurity, kidnapping, banditry, corruption, inflation and poverty.

“One major factor responsible for the current hardship is leadership that is weak, selfish, not sincere, not responsible, not strategic and largely incompetent.

“One major solution to approach the current challenges is human capital development for all spheres of Nigerian life: secular, religious, education, politics/corporate governance, science/technology.”

Nihinlola held that the September 13-15 conference of the Baptist theological seminary is the church’s way of building people to offer exemplary, God-fearing leadership needed for the church to develop people and transform society.

The conference themed, “Leadership is Vision, Service and Sacrifice”, will also feature seminars examining principles, practice and implications of leadership on Christian, church and society life.

The conference, according to Nihinlola, will also serve as an opportunity to revitalize the church and society and for people to renew their spirituality as well as sharpen skills especially for leadership, communication and counselling.

Among personalities expected at the event are President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Dr Israel Adelani Akanji; Vice President (Administration and Human Resources), Nigerian Baptist Convention, Reverend Musa Ubandoma; Chairman, Nigerian Baptist Convention; Reverend Amos Kunat; former Director, Christian Education Department, Nigerian Baptist Convention, Reverend Jerry Akinsola.
