Ward congress: PDP officers emerged through consensus in Alimosho ― Segun Adewale

Segun Adewale

A chieftain of the Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Segun Adewale, popularly called Aeroland has said that the party adopted a consensus arrangement to produce PDP ward executives in Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.

PDP on Saturday held its ward congress, which was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agents, to produce a new set of leaders that would preside over the affairs of the party at the grassroots.

Adewale, who is also a former chairman of the party in the state, said the choice of consensus arrangement was to harmonise the party position and engender peace, declaring that PDP was leaving no stone unturned to end all acrimony and infighting which had cost it so much in the state.

According to Adewale, who is also a former senatorial candidate of PDP in Lagos West, the consensus arrangement had also been adopted in most of the local government areas in the state to strengthen the unity of the party, urging leaders and members to work together as the party had been losing elections due to fractionalization.

“I want to counsel every party leader and member to work together because we have been losing elections.

“If one group dominates the congress and produce executives, the other group will refuse to work for the group that dominates. Now, we are saying that let us share it evenly,” he said.

PDP Chairman in Alimosho LGA, Elder Saturday Akioya, also in his remarks, said the party was looking for a united PDP that would win elections and take over governance in the state, even as he disclosed that another reason for holding the 11 ward congresses at the LGA headquarters was to minimise expenses.

“Today, all our leaders and members across the 11 wards in the council are here at the headquarters to minimise the expenses.

“We have produced our ward executives through consensus,” he said.

Akioya commended all those that aspired for one position or the other, urging party faithful to continue to work together, even as he declared that work had just started to make the party great and win Lagos State for the good of the majority of residents.

“One day, PDP will take over the affairs of the state for the good of the mass majority of residents,” Akioya said.

Also speaking, Hon. Orji, a former House of Representatives lawmaker representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, while urging party faithful and leaders to join hands together to bring back the lost glory of PDP in Ajeromi-Ifelodun LG and the state, commended the success of the exercise while speaking to newsmen at Ward D, Olodi.

According to the former lawmaker, mediocrity will not be tolerated in the party again, adding that faceless leaders that would not support the party but were after their pockets would be shown the way out.

He added that the congress was bringing out fresh hands that would restructure the party for greater height.

“The congress is bringing out fresh hands that will restructure the party for greater height,” she said.
