Pensioners in Osun State, on Tuesday, protested the non-payment of their outstanding arrears and other entitlements by the state government.
The protest started at about 9 am at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, the state capital from where the pensioner marched around the town before and proceeded to the state secretariat to express their grievances.
Armed with placards with different inscriptions that read: “We are Seriously Suffering Due to the Denial of the State Government on our Plights”, “We Want the State Government to Offset all our Outstanding Entitlements to Take Care of Ourselves” among others, the pensioners frowned at what they called “don’t care attitude” of the government towards their demands.
Speaking with newsmen, the spokesperson of the protesters, Gbenga Oyadare, denied claims that the state government is paying pensioners as falsehood.
He stated that many pensioners have died owing to the inability to take care of their “deteriorating” health conditions.
Oyadare affirmed that there would be no retreat, no surrender on their own part in pursuing what is due to them from the government.
The protest disrupted vehicular movement in the state capital as motorists, motorcyclists and other road users found it difficult to move freely on the routes taken by the protesters.
