The Department of State Service, DSS, on Tuesday, reiterated its reediness to free the detained Publisher of Sahara Reporter and former Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Comrade Omoyele Sowore but would not release him to mobs.
Addressing news in Abuja, the Spokesperson of the Service, Dr Peter Afunanya made it clear that the no credible person has come for him ever since his bait issue started as expected in a civilised society like Nigeria.
According to him, “since we received the court order on Sowore, no credible person has come for him, only what we have been seeing are mobs, placards carrying groups and protesters, trying to force themselves into our facilities to free Sowore.
“Even Chief Femi Falana has not visited this office since this issue of the bail started, the unfortunate thing is that Falana who is a very good friend our DG has not even come or made a phone call to raise the issue with him, but what we are hearing is a different story.

“It is not out of place for us to insist that normal administrative procedures should be followed in the execution of the Court order on Sowore, that is where we are and we will stand by it as a responsible security organization.
“Come to think of this, do we release him to the mobs or placards carrying groups?, do we take him to our gate and set him free, if we release him and a vehicle knocked him down, what we the people say?
“Sowore lacks nothing in our facility, he is allowed to use telephone service and mark you, he still uses telephone to be mobilising his group members.
“Look at what played out in the case of the Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, when he was taken to India for medical treatment, on his return, he said he preferred to be with us rather than going to the Kuje Prison.
‘We will not be distracted by all these propaganda and cheap blackmail, we will remain focused, One Deji Adeyanju even claimed that the Service offered the sum of N1m to stop the pro-Sowore protest.
“Under the current democratic system of government, is it not part of the rights of the citizens to protest?”
While lamenting negative attitudes of the members of the public on the Sowore matter, he said, ‘ despite trying to let the members of the public know the true position on the matter, it is negative responses we are getting.
“Our operatives have been receiving threats here and there, threats to mob them and their families, threats kill them, rather than for credible persons to show up for him.”
