The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Nsukka Zone has stated that federal government seems to have reverted universities to the controversial Integrated Payroll and Personnel information System, IPPIS,
Addressing journalists in Makurdi on Tuesday, the Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Raphael Amokaha revealed that the recent payment to members shows ‘new IPPIS’.
It will be recalled that a federal executive had a few weeks ago directed that universities and other tertiary institutions be removed from IPPIS.
But Comrade Amokaha said that the directive was yet to be complied with.
According to him, “It was therefore with delight that the union received the news that the president of the Federal Republic, through the Federal Executive Council, had directed the immediate removal of universities from IPPIS.
“Regrettably, this directive is yet to be complied with. More disturbing though is the emergence of a ‘new IPPIS’.
“We do not understand what ‘new IPPIS’ means but the directive of FEC was explicit, remove universities from IPPIS.
“So, whatever contraption someone has sprung up with whether new or not, it is still IPPIS and stands rejected.
Comrade Amokaha also called on the federal government to clear all the withheld salaries to its members, saying that the four months offer by government was unacceptable.
The Zonal Coordinator also frowned at the National Assembly interference in the activities of universities, especially, concerning the Tetfund.
